Crime rate surged during 2012 | Pakistan Today | Latest news ...

RAWALPINDI?-?The crime rate in Rawalpindi has surged this year despite sweeping claims regarding strict security arrangements by the authorities. According to statistics collected by APP in this regard, around 1,050 vehicles and 760 motorcycles were stolen in 2012, compared to 1,255 vehicles and 805 motorcycles stolen in 2011. However recovery of these vehicles remained very slow this year.

Statistics showed that despite the presence of 20 police check-posts at entry and exit points of the city, there was no let up in the crime rate and there were frequent reports of crimes including murders, attempted murders, kidnappings for ransom, robberies and street crimes. More than 4,500 similar cases were registered in the city this year while stolen items were recovered in 300 cases only.

The total number of cases recorded in 2012 was over 17,000. Around 255 murder cases were registered during the year while 12 persons were killed during robberies. A total of 490 attempted murder cases were also registered in 2012.

The Rawalpindi Police registered 3,127 cases against drug peddlers and liquor was recovered in 205 cases. Around 2,200 cases were also registered on the recovery of illegal weapons.

Several crimes in different areas also went unreported.

The Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer had shuffled several SHOs in response to the rise in crime but no significant improvement had been seen so far.

According to the City Police Officer (CPO) efforts were being made to control crime in the city. He said senior police officers had been directed to regularly monitor the situation and performance of police officials. ?All available resources are being utilised to control crime and foolproof security arrangements have been made in public places,? he added.

Solid steps to change the traditional ?thana? culture and improve the image of the police have also been taken, he said.

The CPO said ?Khuli Kutcharies? were being held regularly to address grievances.

Stressing the need for concerted efforts, he said people should come forward to play their due role as joint efforts by law enforcement agencies and the general public will have to be made to eliminate crime from the society.

It is the responsibility of police officers to act in accordance with the law and strict action is being taken against negligent police officials he said.

A Brief History of China's Music Industry ? Part 3: The Recorded ...

The music industry of China is an unknown continent from a Western music business research perspective. Therefore it is very meritorious that John Fangjun Li, a lecturer and PhD candidate (2008-2012) at Macquarie University, provides one of the first overviews of the history of China?s music industry for an international readership. In a series of four blog contributions he highlights the development of the recorded music industry in more than 100 years from the final period of Imperial China to the current Peoples Republic of China. He gives an overview of the impact of Western major recorded music companies in the first half of the 20th century and of the emergence of serveral state operated but also privately owned Chinese companies after the Great Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing and other large cities. He also highlights the current digital music business in China that has been dominating the recorded music industry since the the mid 2000s.

This part on the Chinese music industry by John Fangjun Li covers the second half of the 20th century after the emergence of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949 over the period of the Great Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), China?s Economic Reform and Opening-up Policy until the current digital music industry in China.

Guest post by John Fangjun Li
The second period of China?s recorded music industry from the 1950s to the early 2000s can be subdivided into shorter periods due to different economy systems before and after 1978. The early years were shaped by the implementation of the planned economy system by establishing the state-owned China Record Corporation, turning a commercial music business into a not-for-profit industry sector, which shaped China?s music industry also during the Great Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) (Li, 2012).

Before China?s Economic Reform and Opening-up Policy (CEROP) in 1978, the China Record Corporation (CRC) was the only music recording industry body in China (Li, 2006). The CRC system consisted of the Beijing headquarter with branches in larger cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu (Zhang and Wang, 2009; Fang and Wei, 2008).

After 1978 the music industry in China was freed from state restrictions. This enabled the establishment of commercial record companies during the 1980s (Li and Morrow, 2012). The Central Bureau of Broadcasting as the national governmental organization to administer the audio-visual sector loosened the restrictions for operating audio visual businesses in China to develop this sector (Zhang and Wang, 2009).

In the 1980s, most of the profit oriented record companies were successively established in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing such as the ?Guangzhou Pacific Audio Visual Company? (?GPAVC?), the ?Shanghai Audio Visual Company?, the ?Guangzhou New Times Audio Visual Company?, the ?Shanghai Audio Visual Company?, the ?Shanghai Audio Visual Press? (?SAVP?), the ?Audio Visual Press of Chinese Musician Association? and so on (Wang, 2004; Li and Morrow, 2012). The ?GPAVC? was the first local commercial record company established in 1979 (Lun, 1988; Li, 2010; Wang, 1999). These companies greatly influenced China?s recorded music industry particularly during the 1990s (Li and Morrow, 2012; Zhang and Wang, 2009).

From the regional music industry perspective, the recorded music industry in China ran through two periods until the early 2000s. In the first period from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, the ?Guangzhou New Times Audio Visual Company? was one of the first record companies in China that started to sign pop singers with great commercial success (Wang, 2009; Li and Morrow, 2012). In the following, other record companies in Guangzhou such as the ?Guangzhou Pacific Audio-Visual Company?, the ?Guangzhou Company of the China Record Corporation?, the ?White Swan Audio Visual Press?, and the ?Guangdong Audio Visual Press? also signed local pop singers. Guangzhou?s recorded music industry rapidly developed due to the success of this signing policy in this period. Thus, the period from the late 1980s to the early 1990s can be called as ?the Guangzhou Period?.

In the period from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, the recorded music industry rapidly developed in Shanghai as well as in Beijing while Guangzhou?s recorded music industry started to decline (Li, 1995; Jin, 2002). Shanghai focused on music record publishing and distribution while Beijing focused on music recording (Li, 1995; Li and Morrow, 2012). They, in particular Shanghai recorded music industry, greatly promoted the recorded music industry in this period. The ?Shanghai Audio Visual Press?, ?Shanghai Company of China?s Record Corporation? and ?Shanghai Audio Visual Press? were commonly regarded as the three leading record companies in China during the second half of the 1990s (Li, 1995).

There were also a handful of smaller privately owned music record companies that influenced China?s recorded music industry in the 1990s such as the ?Taihe Rye Company?, the ?Guangdong Meika Company?, the ?Beijing Jindian Audio Visual Company? and the ?Beijing Dadi Music Production Company?. Although they played a role in linking music production/recording and distribution, they had less influence in the recorded music industry compared to those larger record companies such as the ?GPAVC? and the ?SAVP? in this period (Jin, 2002).

Pakistan militants kill 40 in execution, attack on Shiites

Naseer Ahmed / Reuters

Paramedics inspect the bodies of Shiite pilgrims killed by a car bomb in Quetta on Sunday.

By NBC News staff and wire services

QUETTA, Pakistan -?Pakistani militants, who have escalated attacks in recent weeks, killed at least 40 people in two separate incidents, officials said on Sunday, challenging assertions that military offensives have broken the back of hardline Islamist groups.

A car bomb exploded near a convoy of buses taking Shiite pilgrims to Iran, killing at least 19 people and wounding 30, officials told NBC News, the latest attack on the minority sect.?

Earlier Sunday, 21 tribal policemen believed to have been kidnapped by the Taliban were found shot dead in Pakistan's troubled northwest tribal region, government officials said.

Witnesses said the blast occurred as the three buses were overtaking a car about 35 miles west of Quetta, capital of sparsely populated Baluchistan province, site of many sectarian attacks, near the Iranian border.?

Pakistan has experienced a spike in killings over the last year by radical Sunni Muslims targeting Shiites who they consider heretics. The violence has been especially pronounced in Baluchistan province, where the latest attack occurred. ?

"The bus next to us caught on fire immediately," pilgrim Hussein Ali, 60, told Reuters. "We tried to save our companions but were driven back by the intensity of the heat."?

A second eyewitness said the bomber rushed by in a pick-up truck, swerved in front of the first bus and slammed on the brakes. The bus slammed into the pick-up truck and then a big explosion occurred.?

Akbar Durrani, Baluchistan's home secretary, told Reuters that rescue teams were trying to reach victims in the wreckage of the vehicles, one of which was still in flames some time after the attack. He said the death toll could rise.?

Fayaz Aziz / Reuters

A badly injured paramilitary soldier, who survived the shooting by Taliban militants, receives treatment at a hospital in Peshawar on Sunday.

At least 19 were killed in the attacks, and 30 wounded, according to government officials.?

A string of attacks on Shiites underscores the government's inability to crack down on groups promoting sectarian violence.?

Sectarian tensions
Shiites make up around 15 percent of Pakistan's 190 million people. They are scattered around the country, but the province of Baluchistan has the largest community, mainly made up of ethnic Hazaras, easily identified by their facial features which resemble those of Central Asians.

Pakistan's 'dynastic politics': Bhutto's son launches career

Sunni extremists have long carried out attacks against Shiites in Pakistan. But the sectarian campaign has stepped up in recent years, fueled mainly by the radical group Laskar-e-Jangvhi, aligned to Pakistani Taliban militants headquartered in the tribal region. More than 300 Shiites have been killed in Pakistan this year, according to Human Rights Watch.

The violence has pushed Baluchistan in particular deeper into chaos. The province was already facing an armed insurgency by ethnic Baluch separatists who frequently attack security forces and government facilities. But the secessionist violence has been overtaken by increasingly bold attacks against Shiites.?

Pakistan, Afghanistan share vision on Taliban

The sectarian bloodletting adds another layer to the turmoil in Pakistan, where the government is fighting an insurgency by the Pakistani Taliban and where many fear Sunni hardliners are gaining strength. Shiites and rights group say the government does little to protect Shiites and that militants are emboldened because they are believed to have links to Pakistan's intelligence agencies.?

Tribal policemen killed
The 21 tribal policemen who were shot dead were found by officials shortly after midnight Sunday in the Jabai area of Frontier Region Peshawar after being notified by one policeman who escaped, said Naveed Akbar Khan, a top political official in the area. Another policeman was found seriously wounded, said Khan.?

The 23 policemen went missing before dawn Thursday when militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons attacked two posts in Frontier Region Peshawar. Two policemen were also killed in the attacks.?

After receiving threatening telephone calls warning they would regret helping the "infidel" campaign against polio, a group of woman, working on a UN-backed polio vaccination campaign, were shot and killed by gunmen a day after a similar slaying in Karachi. Ch4 Europe's Lindsey Hilsum reports. Warning: Some images maybe disturbing.

Militants lined the policemen up on a cricket pitch late Saturday night and gunned them down, said another local official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.?

Also Sunday, two Pakistani army soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the North Waziristan tribal area, the main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the country, security officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with official policy.?

Rivertown Theater hosts party to announce new season and show ...

Theater is a live event and a live moment that you can never recreate.

Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts? is only halfway through its 2012-13, but the new artistic directors say it is not too soon to call the season a success. The theater is hosting a party on Friday, Jan. 4, to announce its 2013-14 season and show off renovations at the venue in Kenner.

?Things are going great,? said Kelly Fouchi, who, with Gary Rucker, took over as the theater?s co-artistic director in April. ?We are offering a lot and there seems to be a lot of enthusiasm and interest from the patrons.?

The hit of the season so far has been ?Legally Blonde: The Musical,? but the lesser-known comedy ?Boeing, Boeing? and the ?Nutcracker?-derived ?Pecan Cracker? also have drawn healthy audiences, she said.

?We kind of knew the ebb and flow of the musicals and non-musicals with Rivertown (audiences) in general and we feel that 'Boeing, Boeing? did exceed what they had done in the past for sure,? she said. ?But we have really high expectations and we set the bar really high, so we want everything to sell out!?

Fouchi said that she has been encouraged by the demographics of the attendees of recent shows.

?We?ve definitely had a younger audience,? she said. ?A group of maybe five or six girls that want to get together for a girls? night out and come see a show? We?re seeing families coming.?

The current season will be rounded out by ?Class of ?70 Something? (Jan. 11-27), ?Noises Off? (March 8-24), ?Gypsy? (May 10-26), ?Monty Python?s Spamalot? (June 14-30), and ?When Ya Smilin?? (July 19-Aug. 4). It is not a coincidence that many of the shows are meant to tickle the funny bone.

?We?ll always offer something that?s just high comedy and a great night out to forget about everything and physically laugh out loud with a big group of people,? Fouchi said. ?It really is infections and gets those endorphins going.?

Theatergoers will have a chance to see what Rivertown has in store for 2013-14 at a season announcement party. The Jan. 4 party will be from 7 to 10 p.m at the theater at 325 Minor St. Reservations are required and admission is $40 per person. And, rather than simply revealing the shows of the 2013-14 season, guests will get sneak-peek performances from the works.

?We?re so blessed and lucky that we have such great relationships with the top talent in the city and they?re all very excited to do this with us,? Fouchi said. ?They?re all working on numbers from the upcoming shows and they?re all going to present something.?

Rivertown Theater?s Season Announcement Party

  • What: An evening of preview performances from ?Class of 70 Something? as well as the slate of as-yet-unannounced shows for the 2013-14 season, with food, an open bar and a silent auction.
  • Where: Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts, 325 Minor St. in Kenner.
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m.
  • Admission: $40. Reservations are required by calling 504.461.9457 or by visiting the theater?s website.
Food will be provided by Twelve Seasons Catering. There will also be a silent auction, with a decidedly theatrical bent: ?We?re going to offer a walk-on role in ?Spamalot,?? she said.

Fouchi got the idea for the party from the noted Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J., but she said that ?every theater does it across the country. You just see all these major community theaters that have a lot of support and a lot of sponsorships having season announcement parties.?

The party is not Fouchi and Rucker?s only innovation since they took the reins at Rivertown. The theater is substantial renovations, which are being funded in large part by ticket sales.

?The lobby is completely done,? Fouchi said. ?It?s one of the biggest facelifts that the patrons notice.? The bar and bathrooms have also been updated, she said, along with the offices and backstage.

Next on the list is upgraded seating for the Lagniappe children?s stage.

?Right now, for the children?s shows, it?s great because we have the benches and they can sit children?s theater-style, where the kids sit on the benches in the front and the parents have seats in the back,? Fouchi said. ?But we would eventually like to get some risers and some multi-use seating so we can reconfigure the space in different ways, depending on what show it is.?

While the main theater could use a fresh paint job and new carpet, Fouchi said it would be a mistake to toy with the classic feel of the venue.

?When people walk in who have never been there before, usually their first reaction is, ?Wow, this is so nice,?? she said.

Fouchi is hoping that the same ?old-world theater? charm makes Rivertown?s offerings appealing to audiences accustomed to being entertained by electronic means.

?Theater is a live event and a live moment that you can never recreate,? she said. ?That relationship with the audience and the actors is a one-time experience that can?t be duplicated. There?s no way to fabricate that kind of emotion from a computer screen.?

Putin signs anti-U.S. adoptions bill

MOSCOW (AP) ? President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed a bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children, making the legislation official less than 24 hours after his office received it from Parliament.

The bill has angered Americans and Russians who argue it victimizes children to make a political point, cutting off a route out of frequently dismal orphanages for thousands of children. The Russian-language hashtag "PutinEatsKids" was trending on Twitter just minutes after Putin signed it.

UNICEF estimates that there are about 740,000 children not in parental custody in Russia while about 18,000 Russians are on the waiting list to adopt a child.

The law also blocks dozens of Russian children now in the process of being adopted by American families from leaving the country. The U.S. is the biggest destination for adopted Russian children ? more than 60,000 of them have been taken in by Americans over the past two decades.

The measure is retaliation for an American law that calls for sanctions against Russian officials deemed human rights violators. The U.S. State Department has said it regrets Parliament's decision to pass the bill, arguing it would prevent many children from growing up in families.

Children's rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov says that 46 children who were about to be adopted in the U.S. would remain in Russia if the bill comes into effect.

Putin has said that U.S. authorities routinely let Americans suspected of violence toward Russian adoptees go unpunished.

The passage of the bill followed weeks of a hysterical media campaign on Kremlin-controlled television that lambasts American adoptive parents and adoption agencies that allegedly bribe their way into getting Russian children.

A few lawmakers claimed that some Russian children were adopted by Americans only to be used for organ transplants and become sex toys or cannon fodder for the U.S. Army. A spokesman with Russia's dominant Orthodox Church said that the children adopted by foreigners and raised outside the church will not "enter God's kingdom."

This short guide is aimed at answering some of the most frequently asked questions asked by prospective buyers of antique writing furniture and specifically Antique Desks and Deal board. It covers key factors just like fundamental selections, practical matters, forms of writing furniture, age, woods, care of antique furniture and just how to purchase from an antique dealer.

Antique Writing Furnishings ? the basic choices

Flat Major Desks: they are probably the most well known type of desk being the most versatile, particularly whenever a big perform space is needed for paperwork and/or computer gear. Numerous sizes are available from the smallest 36? (91cm) width up to larger workspaces of 72? (183cm) or better. The depth of the desk is vital ? the narrower the desk the closer the working material is always to the user ? a deeper desk allows extra storage but some of it may perhaps be out of arms reach.

Desks with Superstructure: incredibly well known in Victorian instances and earlier. These desks ? which take lots of types, Dickens desks, bankers desks, roll prime desks, Carlton Home Desks and so forth ? possess a raised structure at the back on the desk with drawers, modest cupboards or pigeon holes for stationery. A lot of these desks had been designed to stand against a wall and possess a reasonably plain or maybe unfinished rear elevation. Some desks have flat writing surfaces, some have raised writing slopes with storage underneath ? these with all the slope are becoming well known again due to the fact the slope gives a perfect ?work station? for any laptop pc.

Desks for greater than one particular person: greater desks that have substantial depth could be used by two individuals ? facing one another ? see Partners? Desks beneath. They would most likely stand within the middle of an office or study to permit access to all sides of your desk. Certainly such desks also provide an incredibly huge perform space to get a single user.

Desks to become seen from all angles: as pointed out above some desks had been normally made to stand against a wall. The original cabinet makers for that reason spent much less time finishing the rear elevation from the desk, at times even leaving it with relatively unfinished timbers. Other desks were nonetheless usually designed to make an impression on everyone entering a area and facing the particular person sitting behind the desk. Within this instance the ?rear? with the desks would be extremely polished, panelled and usually decorated or carved. Partners? Desks also serve this goal in supplying an intriguing and usable rear facade.

Desks versus Writing Tables and Library Tables: Writing and Library Tables are available in much the exact same sizes as Desks, having said that the crucial difference becoming that the tables ordinarily only possess a single line of frieze drawers under the operate surface. (Writing tables have drawers on a single side of the table only ? library tables have drawers to each sides ? from time to time known as Partners? tables). Tables can offer an intriguing option to a desk if only restricted storage is essential. Aesthetically a table can make the room look greater given that much more with the floor can be noticed as when compared with the bulk of a desk that comes appropriate down to the floor. For buyers with eye-catching floor coverings (or bare wood) a writing or library table can be a very exciting option to a desk. Some Consumers also specify each Desk and Writing Table/Library Table for their workplace. The table may be employed as an additional operate space (probably separating paperwork from laptop or computer work ? or as a meeting table. The style and wood of desk and table will must be compatible as well as the leather operate surfaces (where fitted) will also need to be matched.

Man gets DUI after driving on AA co-founder's lawn

DORSET, Vt. (AP) ? Vermont State Police say a man faces a drunken driving charge after driving onto the lawn of a historic home once owned by the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Police say 55-year-old Donald Blood III of Marlborough, Mass., was ordered to appear in court in Bennington on Jan. 14.

Police say Blood thought he was driving into a parking lot, but actually it was the lawn of the Wilson House, built in 1852 in Dorset, the birthplace of AA co-founder Bill Wilson.

The Wilson House's website describes it as a "place of sanctuary where people can come to give thanks to God for their new lives."

It still hosts several AA meetings each week.

Blandinsville family loses everything in Christmas night house f ...

BLANDINSVILLE, Ill. (WGEM) -

A family has lost everything in a house fire on Christmas night northeast of Blandinsville.

Blandinsville-Hire Fire Captain Jake Kreps says that his department responded to a?house fire northeast of Blandinsville just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The home's three occupants, father Mike Powell?and his?two daughters, ages 5 and 7,?were able to get out of the one-story, ranch style?home unharmed. Kreps said.

"We were sitting there coloring in the living room, when I saw a glow off the side of my truck and machine shed outside," Powell said. "I walked outside and saw the fire shooting out the roof over the kitchen."

Powell said all items in the home were considered a total loss, including Christmas gifts. The fire was under control by 10 p.m. and hot spots were extinguished by 11 p.m., Kreps said.

Kreps said 30 firefighters from Blandinsville-Hire, Good Hope-Sciota and La Harpe fire departments responded for mutual aid. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Clothing and other items can be donated to the famly by dropping them off at the residence of Connie Powell, Mike's mother, at 501 E. Roberts St in Colchester. Items can also be dropped off at the Scrapbook Nook store in Colchester, from Noon-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, or 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Egypt's contentious Islamist constitution becomes law

CAIRO (Reuters) - President Mohamed Mursi admitted on Wednesday that Egypt's economy faces serious problems after he enacted a new, bitterly contested constitution that is supposed to help end political unrest and allow him to focus on the financial crisis.

The president said the economy also had great opportunities to grow, but earlier the Egyptian pound tumbled to its weakest level in almost eight years as ever more people rushed to buy dollars and withdraw their savings from banks.

Mursi, catapulted into power by his Islamist allies this year, believes that adopting the constitution quickly and holding elections to a permanent new parliament soon will help to end the long period of turmoil that has wrecked the economy.

The presidency announced on Wednesday that Mursi had formally approved the constitution, which was drafted by his Islamist allies, the previous evening, shortly after results showed that Egyptians had backed it in a referendum.

Keen to be seen as tough but fair, Mursi said it was time for all political forces to put aside their differences and start working together to bring economic stability.

"I will make all efforts, together with you, to push forward the economy which faces huge challenges and has great opportunities to grow," Mursi said in his first address to the nation since the adoption of the constitution.

The text won about 64 percent in a two-stage referendum, paving the way for a new parliamentary vote in about two months.

The main opposition group, which has until now boycotted all rounds of national unity talks led by Mursi's office, said it had not changed its position.

"The ongoing talks are farcical and theatrical," Hussein Abdel Ghani, an opposition spokesman, told reporters. He called on Egyptians to demonstrate against the new constitution on January 25, the second anniversary of Egypt's revolution.

He added that the opposition would stick to its policy of peaceful protest against Mursi's government, which he said sought to use religion as a tool to create an oppressive state.

ANOTHER ISLAMIST VICTORY

The referendum result marked yet another electoral victory for the Islamists since veteran autocrat Hosni Mubarak was toppled in 2011, following parliamentary elections last year and the presidential vote that brought Mursi to power this year.

The charter states that the principles of sharia, Islamic law, are the main source of legislation and that Islamic authorities will be consulted on sharia - a source of concern to the Christian minority and others.

Mursi's government, which has accused opponents of damaging the economy by prolonging the political upheaval, now faces the tough task of building a broad consensus as it prepares to impose hugely unpopular austerity measures.

In his speech, Mursi said he would introduce incentives to make Egypt - once a darling of emerging market investors - an attractive place for business once again, and he would consider making changes in the cabinet as part of his plan.

He also appeared keen to seem tolerant of those who voted "no" in this month's referendum.

"This is their right," he said. "Those who said 'no' and those who said 'yes', I thank you both because we do not want to return to the era of one opinion or fake majorities."

CRISIS ATMOSPHERE

The atmosphere of crisis deepened this week after the Standard & Poor's agency downgraded Egypt's long-term credit rating and warned of a possible further cut. The government has imposed currency restrictions to reduce capital flight.

In Cairo's bustling center, people appeared nervous, openly expressing their frustration with economic instability as they went about their daily business.

"The country's going to the pits. Everything is a mess," Hamdy Hussein, a 61-year-old building janitor, said angrily. "It's worse than ever. Mubarak was better than now. People were living and there was security."

Ashraf Mohamed Kamal, 30, added: "The economic situation will be a mess in the next few years. It already is. People will get hungrier. People are now begging more."

The pound traded as low as 6.1775 against the dollar on Wednesday, close to its all-time low of 6.26 hit on October 14, 2004, on concerns that the government might devalue or tighten restrictions on currency movements.

"All customers are rushing to buy dollars after the downgrading," said a dealer at a Cairo-based bank. "We'll have to wait to see how the market will operate with the U.S. dollar, because as you know there is a rush at the moment."

The government is now in talks with business figures, trade unions and other groups to persuade them of the need for tax increases to resolve the crisis. Mursi has committed to such austerity measures to receive a $4.8 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund.

However, Al-Mal newspaper quoted Planning Minister Ashraf al-Araby as saying the government would not implement the tax increases until it had completed the dialogue with different parts of society.

Mursi's government argues the constitution offers enough protection to all groups, and that many Egyptians are fed up with street protests that have prevented a return to normality.

The charter gives Egypt's upper house of parliament, which is dominated by Islamists, full legislative powers until the vote for a new lower house is held.

Mursi is also due to address the upper house on Saturday in a speech likely to be dominated by economic policy.

Sharpening people's concerns, the authorities imposed currency controls on Tuesday to prevent capital flight. Leaving or entering Egypt with more than $10,000 in cash is now banned.

Adding to the government's long list of worries, Communications Minister Hany Mahmoud has resigned citing his "inability to adapt to the government's working culture".

Self Improvement And Empowerment Blog: Turn Fear Into Love ...

If you look around you, there are fear messages all around you. The news is saturated with fear messages and most conversations tend to revolve around some form of fear. With fear being in the main stream, it can be challenging and you can even get weary if you're trying to hold the light when no one else seems to be doing that around you.

I get it. I've seen angels since I was a child. I read people's energies and know things about them that they may never understand. I've brought bugs back to life when they were squooshed and it seemed there was no hope for them with my healing gift. I've fought for my right to just feel what I feel without being told I'm crazy or too sensitive and in the process of it all I have lost myself many times, fallen and scraped my knees more times than I can count, lived on the streets, I have been beaten and still I wondered why no one else felt the things that I did deep in my soul.

One word. FEAR.

Everyone is emotionally sensitive. Everyone has spiritual gifts. Everyone can tap into their inner wisdom, the light, God, Infinite Spirit and be in the flow of manifesting what they desire. Many have lost their way.

They've been told to be a certain way. Boys have been told not to cry, to tough it out and macho up. Girls have been told "Shhhh... that's not very lady like" and this still happens because I see it every day. Over the years people have been placed into categories, held up to expectations by others, told they were bad, given tools for war rather than tools for peace and love and now we live in a world where people are struggling to feel love, struggling to feel happy and struggling to get through tough times.

So let's bring in some light. You may identify with some part of this. I wanted to be transparent because there is a gift in my rich past experience and I know that. I would be selfish not to share it with you so I share it with the intention that it spark some light within you.

How to turn fear into love.

First of all you must be willing to buck the crowd at times. Not everyone is going to get the light right away. Some may go away and others may take a while to come around. It's not about them. It's about YOU claiming your right to light and to living your life from that place. That means getting up and sending light to the people in your home, at work, at the store and doing everything you do in the light.

Create a practice that will help you tune into more love and light in your heart. Meditate, journal, read spiritual books, join a spiritual group, hire a mentor who can hold the space for you and practice saturating yourself in lighter thought forms, lighter feelings, lighter perceptions. The heavier stuff will start to fall away.

Face the fears about being in the light and thinking you'll be rejected. When you release rejection and the fears around BEING YOU for all that you are then a cellular change begins to take place. Energetically you begin to shift into a different way of being. You'll naturally be in harmony with the world around you and resistance, challenges and obstacles will start to disappear.

You have a right to be the light. In fact it is your spiritual responsibility to everyone on this planet. Fear has only created pain, separation and war. Only love and light will remove fear from your life.

You owe it to yourself, your family and the rest of the world to finally drop your story, drop the fear, drop the pain, drop the drama and claim today that you will begin to write a new story that will fulfill you, heal you, nurture you, support you and in turn spread to those around you.

Produce a Perfect Faux Gerhard Richter Painting, and I'll Buy It | The ...

By Jerry Saltz | Vulture Magazine

I love art, but I hate the astronomical prices it sells for. My skin crawls when I read about auctions, and every year they get grosser. Last month, a living-artist record was set when a 1994 abstract Gerhard Richter painting was sold for $34.2 million. Like a lot of these purchases, the sale was about a collector trying to make art history by spending money. Or big-dick-waving. Ugh.

I want to own art like this, but I?m not rich, and I also think it?s a conflict of interest for a critic to own work that he or she may write about. (Reviews can affect market value.) So, last winter, I put out a call on Facebook. I?d pay anyone $155 plus the cost of materials to make me a perfect fake by Richter, Ryman, Flavin, Fontana, Du?champ, Hirst, Guyton, or Agnes Martin. (Why $155? It?s enough money to me that the painting had to be worth it, and 55 is a funnier number than 50.)

You can?t just call up a guy and order an ersatz Hirst or Richter?unless you are seeking a flat-out forger, but those folks don?t work for $155 and their numbers aren?t listed. Besides, in the art world, noncriminal fakes aren?t news. We don?t even call them ?fakes.? We prefer the term ?appropriation,? whereby a new artwork incorporates or reproduces another. Copyists lie on a continuum: At one end, you have extremely original artists (Richard Prince, Elaine Sturtevant) who use the old to make something new. At the other, you have people deceiving buyers. In between, you have artists who merely make covers, trying to get attention; slipstream behind the famous; and offer simplistic observations. Plus some who are just goofing around. Read More...

VYSUALYZE: Arts & Entertainment | "The Website for the Up ...

?I took a few years off of doing photography and graphic art. When I started again recently, everything seemed a bit weird. My artistic vision was still there, but it all took a while to get back into place?? ~CRUZ

?

MEET CRUZ LEACOCK PHOTOGRAPHER/CREATOR OF WWW.VYSUALYZE.COM??

?I am an artist living in Philadelphia, PA! My chosen mediums are photography and graphics arts. I was educated in both fields from several different outlets including classroom training and self teachings. After I learned all the technical aspects I could, I threw them away and began creating art only the way I visualized. Growing up in the Philadelphia school system, I felt uncultured as a student and completely unprepared for life, much less college. I was desperately looking for something to inspire and fill me with passion. I took several different courses in college including communications, education, computer science and business but nothing could hold my attention until I started taking art classes. My first two being Photography and Art History. It opened a new world to me and I became engulfed in photography and graphic design. My photos have been featured in several local papers and a few exhibits but the majority was personal work for myself and others.?

Cruz takes a pause to?sip his hot Starbucks coffee on?this raining Saturday?morning at Philadelphia International Airport .? He sits?next to?me dressed comfortably with his black hoodie over?his head as I only have a?breif time to chat with him?before my plane boards. Happy he?agreed to meet with me on such?short notice and time constraint he continues to speak articulately in a fluent manor about himself?

?My purpose? To be able to spread the gift of artistic expression to youth and individuals who are trying to find a greater purpose and beauty in their everyday lives. As children in school and even adults of all ages, society portrays an image of absolute success; a doctor, an entertainer, a lawyer, an athlete. Being an artist, a world changer, a self expressionist is just as important. When you share your gift of art with others, you change lives. I believe through art and self expression you find the person you want to be and discover how you want to change the world. I plan to spread my word by creating local art galleries and a foundation that supports art programs catered to my purpose. Most importantly, by continuing to create my art because that?s my way of changing the world.?

Cruz makes the above statement while I was?on?a recent layover in Philly, PA.? This ?Photogragher & Website Creator met up with me for a quick coffee chat in between my planes.? You can read the bulk of?our conversation below:

CJM: Congratulations on the lanching of www.vysualyze.com

CRUZ: Thanks CeeJ!?The site is?finally?up and open for the business of sharing art and culture online. Everything is a bit bare so far but definitely check out my site. Thank you in advance for the support and?I hope?everyone reading this will?become a frequent viewer of??www.vysualyze.com?community.

CJM: Do you consider yourself a trend setter?

CRUZ: No, I don?t! I think when someone is a true artist, being a trend setter should be the last thing on their minds. I think it jeopardizes complete artistry. I know that my work is a reflection of myself and my visions. When you are lucky enough to find your passion and you give yourself completely to it, it becomes greater than a trend but a movement. Movements lasts forever!?

CJM: When did you decide you wanted to be a photographer?

CRUZ: I decided to become a photographer after the first image I produced in the dark room back in 2000. When I saw that image, which is my photograph of the street on a rainy day, I was blown away. The fact that I could take this picture of a moment in time I thought was beautiful and make it ?come to life? again made me feel alive. I was searching in my life for something I could connect with. This felt right in my heart. I knew I had to give it my all.

CJM: Are there any black photographers who specifically has an influence on your work?

CJM: What inspires you to take pictures?

CRUZ: Darkness, sorrow and everyday life. To me, these three things go hand and hand. I see darkness and sorrow in my everyday life. It may sound negative to some people but it?s a thing of beauty and truly inspiring to me. I can see so clearly in darkness and sorrow; my visions, other people, reality, my subjects. My job after that is to interpret it so others can see it through my art.

?

??Beauty can be found anywhere. Even in puddles on the streets of New York. Photographer Ira Fox shows just how beautiful they can be with his series Reflections.? CLICK HERE

CJM: How do you find your subjects to photograph?

CRUZ: My subjects always start in my head. I visual a theme, a person or object very abstractly most times. I take that foundation of my thought and when I get in front of it with my camera, that?s when my mind starts to race and that subject and idea in my head become clear and I capture what was there from the beginning but never saw completely.

CRUZ: Main main focus right now is www.vysualyze.com?now but I can never say specifically until it is actually happening because things always start out not so very clear to me until I am in front my found target with my?camera. One thing I do want to work on is a self connecting portrait series. I have this vision of the way people see themselves when they aren?t self aware. Its a developing idea that I want to really soak up a lot of my time doing because I feel like its going to be something that is defining for me artistically and personally.

I looked at the time on my cell phone and realize it was very close to time for me boarding my plane back to Houston. I finish up with this question as we stood and I before I turned off my portable tape recorder?

Just as quickly as this chat had started it was summed up in the words of true Photographer?

??In a FLASH!? ~C.JAY
